8 Things You Should Know About Micro-Needling Therapy.

Beauty is a characteristic of a person’s appearance. Physical attractiveness is one of women’s most important assets, and something all women should strive to achieve and maintain. Time and time again, we become accustomed to the idea of not doing enough for our skin. Standards of beauty have changed over time, based on changing cultural values.

Thus the birth of laser treatments, botox and other numerous anti-aging options have become available to keep us looking younger and more beautiful. In addition, Micro-neddling Therapy is one of the latest craze for facial beauty. Well, before you go trying this therapy, here are 8 things you should know about micro-needling therapy.

What is Micro-needling?

Micro-needling therapy, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or skin needling or micro-puncture is an alternative to laser for skin rejuvenation. It is a process that uses fine needles to penetrate and puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury in order to encourage rejuvenation by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis.

How does it work on the skin?

It takes a few minutes up to an hour to complete, depending on the area to be treated and the severity of the problem. For skin that has severe problems, It should be treated by the medical professions such as doctors. The medical professional would first applies a numbing cream on the treatment area or injects local anesthetic.

For not as severe cases, or just for monthly maintenance sort of treatment, a certified Skincare Therapist would be able to perform the treatment as well. The device gently stamps on the skin multiple times for best results. A minimum of six weeks is recommended between two treatments for new natural collagen to form.

Is it for all skin types?

Microneedling can be performed on all skin colours and types. However, it should be avoided if one has an active infection on the skin such as impetigo, active and inflamed acne or skin disease.

The micro-needle length can vary from 0.5 to 3.0 mm gentle enough to be used around the delicate eye area which laser treatments would not be able to perform. Those with hypersensitive skin, acute eczema or sun burnt skin should also avoid this therapy.

What are the benefits of Micro-needling Therapy?

This recent therapy helps turbocharges your body’s natural ability to produce collagen and elastin. A procedure which helps improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks and creates a more plumped youthful skin tone.

It helps reduce pore size, wrinkles and fine lines, balances oil levels in the skin and also encourages the effectiveness of skincare products. Micro-needling Therapy can also be performed on the body to address issues such as stretch marks and scars.

Will it leave scars on the face?

Redness starts to show during the treatment

Whenever you have an injury that creates a wound of any kind, even a small injury or controlled wound created by microneedling, it also causes micro scars. This is when Vitamin C products come to the rescue and moisturisers that contains aloe and Vitamin E.

Microneedling does cause scarring but not the way we think of it. Generally, the treated areas recover fast. However, there are occasional side effects, which include swelling during the recovery phase and mild acne flare.

What are the recommended sessions before seeing results?

The number of needling procedures depends on the individual skin condition. Three to four treatments may be needed for moderate acne scars. Scars from thermal burns and stretch marks (striae) may require up to 5 procedures.

In the case of wrinkles associated with ageing skin, one or two refresher skin needling treatments are recommended every year. The final results might not be noticeable until you hit the three to twelve month’s mark as boosting collagen and elastin within the dermis takes time. However, as with most treatments it depends on the individual.

Who performs the therapy? Doctors or Therapist?

In 2015, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) examined several microneedling devices to determine if they conform to government regulations. The FDA found that micro-needling devices with needles longer than 0.3 mm must be classified as a Class 1 medical device. Which means only certified medical bodies or aestheticians being trained and approved by the medical bodies, can handle the Class 1 micro-needling device.

The FDA has implemented cease and desist actions against several companies selling micro-needling devices longer than 0.3 mm for esthetic purposes until further notice. In short, under FDA guidelines, estheticians and those that do not make medical claims, can only use microneedling devices of less than 0.3 mm.

In accordance to these guidelines, therapist or estheticians can perform Micro-needling Therapy as long as it follows the guidelines and laws stipulated in it. Micro-needling can also be done at home for personal use but to take extra caution and not to overdo the procedure. Instructions to be followed.

Skin Origin’s Miracle Cocktails

For this micro-needling therapy, Skin Origin uses a micro-needle called InnoPen. lnnoPen is a medical precision tool with a unique, dual spring-loaded disposable needle cartridge (InnoTip) that uses an automated, vibrating stamp-like motion to cause micro-injuries to the skin. The gentle stimulation of fibroblasts promotes natural induction of collagen and elastin, without the stress of pain and lengthy downtime associated with ablative treatments.

Micro-channels, resulting from the needles piercing through the skin, aid in infusing therapeutic serums for greater penetration and enhancement of overall efficacy.
