Interview with Tasha (Fashion-paradox)

by
This will go down in history to be the 1st interview for Diva In Me and it’s with no other than the gorgeous and talented Tasha (also own the blog Fashion-paradox). She’s the gifted pair of hands behind the brand Mood & Closet. Tasha also happen to be 1 of my very best friends to share all about fashion and life. I think talent should not go unrecognised so I hope you guys would get to know Tasha better =)

Tell us about yourself.

I’m a girl from a small town, living my dreams in a big city of Kuala Lumpur and still trying to achieve what I wanted to achieve – a successful Fashion Designer. I was born and raised in Taiping. Right after high school, I went several places alone in search of bigger career opportunities. It took me 7 years, about 26 jobs  and I’m finally able to start doing what I’ve always wanted to do since I was 11 years old – Fashion Design.

The journey began

You came from big fashion companies, such as Guess? and British India. What made you decide to leave? Was it a big decision for you?
I think I had enough. Enough of wasting time lurking around looking for better job. The circle would never end. I would still be continuing looking for jobs all my life, which was what I’ve been doing for the past 7 years.  It’s not a big decision to me at all, partly because I wasn’t doing what I love and I leave because there’s nothing more to learn and improve and I know I needed to take that first step to start my own business.  So I did.

You design and make such beautiful dresses. What are some of your favourites?

Thank you. I got to say I love all of them, but these are few of my favorites;

White pleated front Dress
Halterneck Top & High-low Skirt
Where do you get your inspirations from?

I got them from everywhere! From websites to magazines, movies and on the street.  I love taking inspirations from flowers and sea creatures. They are rich in colors.

Floral Design – just like the one on Tasha
Bubble prints
Is there any particular designer that you admire most?

I love Erdem Moralioglu, he design amazing apparels and prints.  I also love Georgina Chapman for her beautiful romantic creations. And Roberto Cavalli with his wild animals designs.

What have you learned over the years in your business?

I’ve learned to be persistent and to keep improving in every aspect from designing, sewing to running a business. I learned that great ideas are nothing if it’s not executed. Always share ideas and knowledge. At the end of the day, it’s about who does a better job and not who keep the best ideas. I also learned that creativity doesn’t come from one person alone, everyone has different ideas and perspective and you gotta be open to all of it. Keep learning, that is the most important thing.

Floral Prints are Tasha’s favourite

What would be your advice to women when it comes to shopping?

Follow your heart, not trend or what people are wearing. Dare to try new things. You might not know that one dress you despise could be your ultimate favourite.

It was amazing when I read back the interview I had with Tasha. After knowing her for so many years, I still think it is very courageous of her to take that leap of faith without knowing what’s going to happen. Good or bad, never try never know =) I’m sure there are alot of people out there who think she’s crazy to start her own business when all she need is just a few people who believed in her. I hope you had enjoyed this interview and get to know Tasha a little better. If you would like to see more pictures of her, do visit her blog at Fashion-paradox.
