5 Things No One Tells You About Getting Covid19

Let me start with what you would usually hear – “It’s just a flu”. Now that I’ve gotten Covid19, which was just last week, I can tell you it is NOT just a flu and it is more than that. Here is my take about my experience and the 5 things no one tells you about getting Covid19.

1. IT IS NOT JUST A FLU

Not just another flu
Not just another flu!

As I said, it is NOT just a flu. If you haven’t had your taste of Covid19, don’t let your guard down and continue to avoid it. It is still not a regular flu. Yes, I know we are heading towards an endemic but not today and not yet. Covid19 may not cause significant disruption in our daily lives but it did for me, for a week!

It started off in the household from my husband. He thought it was just a regular sore throat and occasional cough. Within 3 days, it developed into a double line on the test kit. 2 days later, the same story goes for me. Mine started with just a minor sore throat and in the next 24 hours, a cough developed, fever came with backache and eventually a runny nose.

I was still coping OK within the 1st 3 days but at the end of the 3rd day, my cough was getting bad and my nose started to block-up. That’s when things started to get interesting.

2. LOSING SENSE OF SMELL AND TASTE

Looking at this plate of delicious Char Kuey Teow, I do not even have the appetite to eat it.

When my nose was blocked and my cough continued, I’m stared having difficulty in sleeping at night. I had to breath through my mouth and it got very dry. We slept with our fan on ever since we have Covid19.

Slowly, we can’t smell much of anything and our taste in food became really blend. In fact, it heightened a few tastes, such as saltiness. Everything I tasted, I can only taste the saltiness and nothing else. Occasionally I can taste some pepper-ish taste on some food.

As I’m writing this blog post, I’m on my 8th day since I was Covid19 positive. I still can’t smell anything unless I bring it really close to me such as coffee, perfume and etc. Well, the good thing is I can’t smell my own poop or my dog’s. Now, I don’t even know if that’s a good or bad thing. I hope this is just temporary.

In order for us to slowly get back our sense of smell, we have to slowly train it back like what this article said. We’ve to start training our nose to smell one category after another. For instance, start with grated lemon peels then move to chilli maybe? Maybe that will awaken some senses. Well, through this, I hope our sense of smell will be back to normal soon.

3. LOST WEIGHT

Lost weight
This dress fit snugly before but now it’s loose on the waist.

Well, when you can’t taste your food, you generally just lost interest in eating. I lost 2kg in this process. Sometimes I forced myself to eat because I’ve to take some medication. Most of the time I’m just not hungry.

I tried to take more vegetables and lightweight meals such as congee and chicken noodle soup. Anything that is not salty, as I can taste extreme saltiness in a meal and that isn’t pleasant. I do miss spicy food but when you’re having a cough and sore throat, you should avoid spicy food.

4. HAVE GLOWING SKIN

Glowing Skin
At least I’ve glowing skin to see and to lift my mood.

After all the negative issues, at least there’s one good thing out of this whole ordeal. I had plenty of rest! The whole week, I ate, slept, read, put on good skincare and repeat. I started using my set of Chanel Sublimage products and I loved the texture! Not that I can smell the products so I’ve to tell myself to relax most of the time.

I started using some Chanel Sublimage products since last year but now that I’m stuck in this Covid19 situation at home, why not indulge myself!

Since I didn’t use much makeup, besides going on an online event twice, I basically use the below day and night.

  1. Cleanse with cleanser.
  2. Eye serum & eye cream.
  3. Exfoliating lotion.
  4. Essence/Concentrate in the morning and at night.
  5. 3 drops of oil at night.
  6. La Cream Lumiere moisturizer for morning and La Creme at night.
  7. Use Chanel Le Baume to massage on alternate night and leave it as moisturizer.
  8. La Protective UV SPF 50 ++ (sunblock) in the morning.

In my honest opinion, indulging my skin with luxury products definitely made my skin look radiant but it also requires diligence and effort. Radiant and good skin comes with other factors as well, such as a lots of good rest and eating a balanced diet.

5. INVEST IN A GOOD TEST KIT

If anything at all, I believe a good test kit is worth investing in. Like the SD Biosensor we are using. It is sensitive and accurate. The kit is selling at almost RM17 a kit. Well, good things ain’t cheap and cheap things ain’t good!

On my 7th day, it is still showing double lines, which means I’m still Covid19 positive. On day 8th, there is still a faint line despite my MySejahtera app stating I’m done with home quarantine.

I would rather it be sensitive than not. It’s bad if I still have traces of the Covid19 flu in me and I go out to meet people and start passing it on to others. Again, it is not just another flu. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what I went through this week.

So here are the 5 things no one tells you about getting Covid19. If you haven’t, I do not wish you would. For now, Covid19 is still not just a regular flu and it is still strong. Not as deadly as before but still too strong for our body to beat it in just a few days. Now I know why it can be very harsh for the elderlies and immunocompromised if they catch Covid19. If you’re staying with elderlies, be very mindful with them. Stay safe everyone.
