Nestled in a heart of the city, situated at Red by Sirocco, is a tranquil spa called The Rub Bar. When I first received an invitation to visit the spa, I was beyond delighted! How can one say no to a spa treatment?
The Rub Bar – No rub like others.
GETTING THERE
Since this is a new territory for me, I drove there using Waze for directions. When I got there, I parked with the valet at Red Hotel. They charge RM10 for hotel guests and RM20 for visitors.
Lift Parking, which is a public parking area, is a cheaper parking option. They charge a flat rate of RM10 for The Rub Bar’s customer. Lift Parking is accessible through the hotel’s back lane.
If you’re from the KL area, I would advise you to take a Grab or taxi instead. Taking the monorail is a good idea too. Your stop will be at Medan Tuanku, which is right in front of the Sheraton Imperial Hotel. The Rub Bar is just behind the Sheraton Imperial Hotel which is a 8-10 minute walk from the Monorail station.
Besides the monorail, the LRT is also another great option. The nearest station to The Rub Bar is Dang Wangi. You’ll just need to walk about 4-5 minutes after.
FIRST IMPRESSION
On the day of my appointment, I just came back from a short trip to Hong Kong. I usually look forward to a good body massage after my travel.
When I first walked into The Rub Bar, it was so relaxing and it brought peace to my senses. This is a good sign and definitely a remarkable first impression.
I walked around discovering that there are a lot of handmade home care items, such as soaps, scrubs, lotions and essential oils. I was then asked to change my shoes to a pair of comfortable slippers and had my feet washed before the treatment.
SIGNATURE CHOICES
I sat down by the bar to pick my choice of massage. That’s very easy since all the available treatments were listed on the huge wall. I picked the 90 minutes full body massage with aromatherapy oil. Every part of my body needed the wonderful Malaysian style massage.
They do offer quite a substantial amount of signature treatments, such as foot reflexology, 3-in-1 massage and scrapping gua sha (traditional Chinese medical treatment). They even provide kids massage for those parents who wants to have a family bonding session.
Occasionally, they do throw some great deals out there. Recently, there were the Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day promotions. You can check them out here. The good thing is that The Rub Bar is open 365 days a year and this Chinese New Year, they’re open too!
I’m so happy The Rub Bar put cleanliness as priority.
MASSAGE EXPERIENCE
Thi was my assigned masseur. She gave me three choices of massage oils – relaxation, detoxification and muscle relief. I went for the muscle relief option. I’ve always had pretty tight shoulders and back. That’s due to over exposure to my computer and mobile phone. Muscle relief it is!
I love the coziness of the spa. The ambiance kept me relaxed and Thi was very skillful. Her pressure was excellent as she knows where to hit those tight spots and fix the tired muscles. I doze off many times till she did my foot massage.
One of my pet peeve is people not washing their hands after touching feet. Luckily for me, Thi did wash her hands after and I’m so happy The Rub Bar put cleanliness as a priority.
The good thing is that The Rub Bar is open 365 days a year.
NEVER A GOODBYE
When you’re enjoying yourself, 90 minutes comes and goes very quickly. Before I knew it, my massage was over and I was headed to the lounge area again. I was served with a hot ginger tea when I arrived.
This might be my first visit to The Rub Bar, but it won’t be the last. I had the best time unwinding and it was worth every minute that I spent there. Before leaving, I picked up a bottle of custom-made hand lotion with my choice of essential oil. I picked Lavender for days when I’m stressed.
Thank you Thi and The Rub Bar for this enjoyable and unforgettable spa experience. I find that charges are reasonable for a pleasant spa like this in Kuala Lumpur. For me, a good spa must have great ambiance, prioritize in cleanliness and have skillful masseurs. The Rub Bar checked all of my list.
I would highly recommend this spa and don’t blame me if you got addicted to it.
