Burberry by Riccardo Tisci

Riccardo Tisci presented his first collection for Burberry with a show that paid homage to the individuality, eccentricity and inimitable attitude of Britain.

THE COLLECTION

The Burberry Spring/Summer 2019 collection for men and women, called “Kingdom”, was unveiled at a new show venue in Vauxhall, South West London.

The new collection celebrates the diversity and the heart of England – the melting pot of creativity and style traditions from the punk and rebellious, to the formal and refined. In my opinion, it’s a little crowded just like London itself. I find that there’s too many pieces to digest in one show. Albeit, I must say the color scheme was pleasant.

LOGO & PRINTS

The new monogram celebrates the heritage of the fashion house in a return to the spirit of its founder, Thomas Burberry. Logo and prints will appear across all of Burberrys channels and in a new advertising campaign for the brand.

BURBERRY & THE ENVIRONMENT

Earlier this month, Burberry confirmed that it will no longer use real fur starting with Riccardo’s debut runway collection for Burberry. That wins my heart hands down! That itself would attract many environmental friendly crowd to invest in Burberry’s faux fur coats. I’m definitely one of them.

In addition, Burberry also announced that it will stop the practice of destroying unsaleable products. I guess this way, Burberry will make better planning for production, and would consider not making products excessively.

Functional design for rainy weather in London. Not the bicycle chain as belt though..

“I was thinking a lot about journeys as I started putting together my first Burberry collection. From my personal journey back to London 20 years after I showed my graduate collection here, to how far I have come. I was also inspired by how much London – the city that made me dream to become a designer – has evolved. This show is a celebration of the cultures, the traditions and the codes ofthis historic fashion house and of the eclecticism that makes up the beautifully diverse United Kingdom.”
