Travel – Dubai (Day 1)

by
Not too long ago, during Chinese New Year, my family decided to have a family trip to Dubai. I had a great trip in Dubai, though it was kind of a rush but we covered quite a lot in such a short time. It was tiring but definitely fulfilling and worthwhile.

I’m sorry to bombard you with a lot of pictures in this post. I try to explain some of the pictures and hope I can bring you through the journey. Things in Dubai is definitely not cheap but for a desert, you will be surprise the water is very affordable. It only cost about 1-1.5 Dirham which is like 30 cents in USD. The government subsidise their water and gas.
After I visited Dubai, I do have a different perspective in a country’s development. I have a great sense of respect to their leaders. Be it that they were blessed with the “black gold” but it takes a strong and smart leader to use what they are blessed with and share the wealth with the nation. Enjoy the pictures =)

Dubai here I come!
We stayed at Novotel World Trade Center.

At the creek. This creek was widen and deepen so that more traders would trade
in Dubai and that’s how they became famous pre-oil.
Dubai Museum – this was built in 1799. It was used as a palace, prison, fort and in 1970
it became a museum. It show the life in Dubai pre-oil.
This is how a house look like back then. The square big chimney on top of the
house is actually a ventilation system. The triangle is to trap the air from all sides
and then channel it down to the house and pushes the warm air out.
A lifestyle statue to showcase their Souk (market) back then.
Hey, they even imported Tide back then!! Can you spot it?! =D
After we left the museum, we went to The Spice Souk
The famous Shisha pipes
Beside the Spice Souk is the Gold Souk. All their gold shops looked the same to me.
They all hang their gold outside the shops like that. LOL!
Serious?! A top made of gold?!! You better believe it!
World tallest building – Burj Khalifa. It’s twice the height of KL Twin Towers.
We were on the observation deck at 124th floor. Such a breath-taking view don’t you think?
Cam-horing! LOL!
We also visited the Huge Aquarium & Underwater Zoo as well. I’ve captured some really nice pictures from the aquarium.
Does this make you hungry already? =D
Nautilus
I stood there for 10 minutes and it finally moved! Damn…and I thought it was a fake.
This aquarium is huge and it’s in the heart of Dubai Mall which is the world largest mall currently. Although, I think the aquarium in Lisbon has more stuff.
Night view of Burj Khalifa. What a magnificent sight..
